Shillong, Meghalaya, September 13: Acting on a specific tip-off, troops of 43 Battalion of the Border Security Forces (BSF) intercepted two trucks loaded with a huge quantity of smuggled dry betel nuts worth Rs 40 lakhs from the international border in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills, BSF officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the joint operation was carried out in the bordering area of Gaonbari, under the jurisdiction of PS-Rongra, South Garo Hills where two trucks loaded with a huge quantity of dry betel nuts were confiscated and seized by the joint operation team.
The seized trucks along with the consignment of betel nuts were handed over to PS-Rongra, they said.
An FIR was lodged for further legal action.
Investigation is underway.
