Arm wrestler Onam Gamno has secured a remarkable victory by winning the
gold medal in the left arm 52 kg category at the ongoing World Arm Wrestling
Championship in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur.
The arm wrestler’s commendable achievement has not only made her family
and well-wishers proud but has also garnered accolades from the State and the
entire nation.
Hailing from Ngopok village in Mebo subdivision of East Siang
district in Arunachal Pradesh, she is the daughter of late Uke Gamno and Susur
Gamno.
State Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein congratulating Gamno, a
formidable arm wrestler, wrote on X, “Delighted to learn that Onam Gamno has
secured a Gold Medal in the left arm 52 kg category at the World Arm Wrestling
Championship 2023, demonstrating her incredible strength and determination.”
He added, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Gamno for this
remarkable achievement. Immensely proud of Gamno’s success and wish her
continued success in her future endeavours.”
Previously, during her departure for the event, Chief Minister Pema
Khandu had expressed happiness over Onam’s achievement.
The Arunachal CM shared a congratulatory post saying, “Where there
is a will there is a wrestler! Kudos to Onam Gamno of Ngopok village in East
Siang district as she gets set to represent Bharat at the World Arm Wrestling
Championship 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s commendable that you pursued your passion for wrestling
alongside your challenging job as a Nursing Officer.”
The 25 years old arm wrestler, who began her career merely a year
ago in January, studied in IGJ Govt Higher Secondary School, Pasighat and did
her BSc Nursing from Northeast Nursing College of Health Science, Lekhi.
She was engaged as a nursing officer at the Guwahati-based Apollo
Hospital professionally.
Earlier too, Gamno had won many gold medals in arm wrestling. She
won third slot in the All India Open Arm Wrestling Championship, which was held
on November 26, 2022, in Jorhat, Assam.
