In
another tragedy related to train, at least four people were killed and around
100 others injured after 21 coaches of the North East Express derailed in Bihar
on Wednesday.
An
official stated the incident occurred close to Raghunathpur station near Buxar of
the Danapur division of the East Central Railway around 9.35 pm.
The
train, which started from Anand Vihar Terminus in Delhi, was on its way to
Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam.
Union
Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said teams of the national and State disaster
response forces have reached the incident site. Locals and district
administrations rescued the passengers. He added the injured people have been
referred to AIIMS, Patna.
Choubey
added, “It is a terrifying scene. I thank the locals for their support in the
rescue operation… Thousands of people left all their work and rushed here to
help…”
East
Central Railways General Manager Tarun Prakash said the reason behind the
incident will be investigated after the rescue operation was over.
Meanwhile,
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed on X, “Evacuation and rescue
are complete. All coaches were checked. Passengers will be shifted to a special
train soon for their onward journey.”
Bihar
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said he has spoken to the Disaster
Management Department, Health Department, and the district officials of Buxar
and Bhojpur to speed up the relief and rescue work.
Assam
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s office also said they are “closely
monitoring the unfortunate derailment” of the train in Raghunathpur.
They
added that they are in touch with the district authorities in Buxar and other
agencies.
