The Assam Police are on toes after a group of
unidentified miscreants threatened Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through
posters pasted at public places on Thursday.
The poster includes pictures of three unidentified
people with the threat message written below addressed by the name IKEN CHELENG.
The group did not specify any concrete cause for the
warning, but it stated in Assamese which is loosely translated into English
here as, “Himanta Biswa Sarma, whatever you are doing in Assam is not at all
appreciated. Stop doing that right away or you will be blown away.”
As per preliminary reports, these posters were found
in the Aggyathuri area of Kamrup district, near Ganesh Mandir. Earlier the area
was the part of the Jalukbari constituency but after delimitation it falls
under Hajo.
Sources informed that a few locals in the morning hours
spotted these posters and accordingly, informed the matter to the local police
and media.
Police said that they have started an investigation to
find out culprits responsible for pasting such posters.
It is pertinent to mention that a few months back
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had received a threat in the form of an audio
message from the banned separatist outfit – Sikhs for Justice.
In the purported audio clip, the speaker claimed to be
Gurpatwan Singh Pannun of Sikh for Justice. He had accused the Assam Government
of harassing the aides of Amritpal Singh in Assam jail.
“This message is for Assam CM Himanta Sarma. Your
government is harassing and torturing pro-Khalistan Sikhs in Assam. And also
torturing those who are in jail. Listen carefully to CM Sarma, the fight is
between pro-Khalistan Sikhs and the Indian regime. Sarma you do not pray to
fall to this violence. We are seeking liberation of Punjab from Indian
occupation through a peaceful democratic process of Khalistan referendum.
Sarma, if your government is going to torture and harass Sikhs, you will be
held accountable,” the purported message had stated.
Assam Police had filed a case after the audio clip
threatening Assam CM surfaced.
“The security component of Hon CM has been adequately
sensitised to the emerging threat. In view of global events, the threat is
being taken very seriously by Assam Police. The central agencies have been kept
in the loop on the issue,” informed Assam DGP GP Singh.
