Taking note of depleting resources like coal and gas and
to face any kind of problem in power production in future, the ruling BJP Government
in the State led by CM Manik Saha, has laid stress upon manufacturing power
using solar energy.
As a step towards this and to tap into the renewable
energy sector, the Tripura Government has set a target to generate 500 mega watt
power using solar energy by 2030 and inaugurated the 33 KV Lembucherra
sub-station.
During the event, State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath
said, “We don’t have coal, gas is depleting. We don’t have sufficient water
except in the Gomati River. Power cannot be produced based on this river. We
have to be dependent on renewable energy forms like solar. Prime Minister (Narendra
Modi) has asked Union Power Minister (RK Singh) to fix a target of producing
500 Mega Watt power from solar energy in Tripura by 2030.”
Nath added the Tripura Government has approached the
Asean Bank of Development so that double power can be produced using the same
gas through the latest technology.
Criticising the erstwhile Left Front Government, Nath
said, “They failed to provide food, clothing and houses to the people during
their reign but the BJP-IPFT Government has fulfilled the promises given to the
people before coming to power, including the Rs 2,000 allowance and others.”
“Earlier, only three per cent of houses had water
connections. Now, 69 per cent of houses have already been covered. The Lefunga
block is already covered. Is this happening anywhere in India? Only in
Tripura,” he said.
