Moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of
expressing solidarity with Israel after the shock attacks by Hamas terrorists entered
13th day and claimed 1,400 plus lives and seized about 200 hostages,
Israel’s ambassador to Bharat, Naor Gilon said Bharat has a special place in
the world and the war-hit country welcomes any sort of help from it.
“PM Modi again expressed solidarity after speaking to
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a few days later. Not just the Indian PM, we
have got a show of support from all levels here — officials, ministers, civil
society, and even people on social media,” he stated.
Gilon said, “Hamas commanders are living a life of
luxury in places like Istanbul and Qatar. We understand that India has a
special place in the world. Many countries are trying to put pressure on Hamas
to secure the release of the innocent civilians. If India is able to speak to
people who have influence over them, we would welcome that.”
Meanwhile, Gaza will receive the first international
relief since October 7, as Israel has given its consent to deliver limited
humanitarian aid, a deal announced by US President Joe Biden during his visit
to the nation.
After one-on-one talks in Israel and intense telephone
diplomacy with Egypt, Joe Biden stated a limited number of trucks would be permitted
to cross the shuttered Rafah crossing from Egypt into Gaza from Friday.
However, fear looms large, stated Israel as aid
deliveries could be utilized as cover to bring in weapons, while Egypt
controlling the border fears throwing open the gates would led to entrance of tens
of thousands of refugees to the country.
Earlier, Gilon asserted Hamas was afraid of the Israel
Defence Forces (IDF) and was putting pressure on them to avert any further
action on the militants.
He further claimed the massive blast at Gaza’s Al Ahli
Hospital, packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter which
killed over 500 people, was hit by a rocket of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike while Israel and US
said the cause was a failed rocket launch by Islamist militants in Gaza who
denied responsibility.
