The ripples of conflict between Israel and Hamas
terrorists may reach Bharat. Anticipating this top security agency officials
held a high-level joint review meeting in Srinagar to assess the potential
repercussions of the ongoing conflict on Jammu and Kashmir and to formulate a
strategy to counter it.
Top security agency officials convened the meeting at
the Army’s 15 Corps headquarters in Srinagar, said a Defence spokesperson.
“So far, we fear that some street protests may take
place, resulting in a law-and-order situation. So, a new security matrix was
discussed to keep things in check,” stated a top defence official.
Street protests have fallen down significantly since
the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, and security agencies feel that it was a
result of joint efforts.
However, “The number of foreign terrorists has gone up
again as local recruitments have gone down drastically,” said another officer.
Reportedly, out of 46 terrorists killed in the Union Territory
this year, 37 were Pakistanis and only nine were locals, official figures
reveal.
This is the first time in the 33 years of terrorism in
Jammu and Kashmir that the number of foreign terrorists killed is four times as
high as local terrorists.
The meeting was presided over by LG’s Advisor RR
Bhatnagar and co-chaired by Northern Army commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi.
Apart from them, other high-ranking attendees included
the Army’s 15 Corps commander, DGP Dilbagh Singh, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar,
Special DG (CID) R Swain, and senior army officers.
“We need to be cautious about the developments in the
Middle East and their potential impact on the situation in J&K. Regardless
of the circumstances, we must maintain a peaceful atmosphere, and our security
agencies are fully capable of doing so,” stated Advisor RR Bhatnagar.
The Northern Army commander expressed satisfaction
with the current peaceful environment and stated that the security grid would
prevent any adverse impact of the Middle East crisis on J&K while
monitoring suspicious individuals and troublemakers closely.
Besides, narco-terrorism and a winter strategy were
discussed, involving vigilant monitoring of Jammu and Kashmir’s internal
security situation and enhancing security along the Line of Control and
International Border in expectation of rise in infiltration attempts before
snowfall blocks infiltration routes.
