Virat Kohli achieved another milestone as he once
again shattered Sachin Tendulkar’s world record in international cricket by making
more than 1,000 ODI runs.
Tendulkar held the record by scoring 1,000 runs or
more in ODIs in seven calendar years, but Kohli surpassed the batting great for
eight calendar years by bringing up 1,000 ODI runs for 2023 in the game against
Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in World Cup 2023 on Thursday.
Interestingly Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record at the
Master Blaster’s home ground in Mumbai and is in line to get to another
milestone.
Kohli achieved the remarkable milestone of scoring
over 1,000 runs in the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2019. On
the other hand, Tendulkar’s impressive feat occurred in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998,
2000, 2003 and 2007.
The superstar cricketer also remains the only batter
to hit ten centuries in matches vs Sri Lanka, a record by any batter against
any team in ODIs.
Tendulkar still holds the record for scoring the most
runs in a calender year, having accumulated 1894 runs in 1998.
However, Kohli perished before equalling Tendulkar’s
world record of 49 ODI hundreds. Former has so far scored 48 ODI tons.
