Bihar Chief
Minister Nitish Kumar apologised after his “vulgar” and “derogatory” comments,
almost in graphic detail, in the State Assembly on the role of women’s
education in population control triggered a controversy.
Speaking in the State
Assembly about women’s education, the Chief Minister used language that was
termed as “vulgar” and “derogatory” by the Opposition.
“I take back my
words. My comments have been mis-constructed. I just talked about women’s
education. I apologise if my statements have hurt anybody,” Nitish Kumar said.
Prior to that,
chaos prevailed in the Bihar Assembly as BJP MLAs, denying entry to Nitish Kumar, protested
and demanded his resignation. However, he later managed to enter and said his remarks were misinterpreted, clarifying that he was only discussing women’s education.
Reacting over the issue, RJD leader and Lalu Prasad’s
wife Rabri Devi said, “It came out from his mouth by mistake. He has
apologised. The House should be allowed to function. Nitish ji has regretted
and said it was a mistake.”
The RJD and JD(U) are partners in the Maha Gathbandhan
(Grand Alliance) Government in the State.
Nitish Kumar made the remarks after the State released
the full report of the caste survey which detailed the economic conditions of
various sections.
