Taking cognisance of and highlighting the historic importance of Rupmahal
Theatre, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh assured that the theatre would be
reconstructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
The chief minister was attending the play ‘Iningthou Kulachandra’
premiere show at Rupmahal Theatre on BT Road recently.
The premiere show of ‘Iningthou Kulachandra’ was shown under Chief
Ministergi Artiste Sing Gi Tengbang (CMAT).
Underscoring the importance of the show, CM Biren said the play will
educate the present and future generations of Maharaja Kulachandra’s spirit and
sacrifices.
The Manipur CM said he was personally struck by certain deeds of Maharaj
Kulachandra and wanted to highlight his story, and said that the play will give
the message of the sacrifices of our leaders.
Further highlighting the significance of historical events, CM Biren said
a film is being made on the ‘Seven Years Devastation’ and heroes like Maharaj
Gambhir Singh, Maharaj Nar Singh, Heerachandra.
Remembering his childhood, he expressed a role played by the theatre, as
a big role in bringing a change to society, adding the importance of various
art forms like theatre, cinema, etc.
CM Biren narrated about the State’s prowess in the fields of art, culture
and sports and said the CMAT was launched to support the artistes of Manipur.
He asserted promoting and encouraging Thang-ta among the younger
generation not only keeps a person physically fit, but also instils discipline.
“There seems to be a loss of nationalistic feeling and discipline for the
elders among the people,” CM Biren expressed concern.
Explaining on the present situation in the State, he urged all to face
the challenges, hardships today for a strong future and reassured that there
will be no compromise from his part in protecting and safeguarding the State.
