Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio,
with a goal to boost tourism through local delicacies, inaugurated the
Hortiscape and Hornbill Cafe at Kisama on the first day of Hornbill Festival on
Friday.
As per a DIPR report, CM Rio said the Hornbill
Cafe was built with an aim to promote tourism through food and local cuisines.
He stated the cafe will be open all
through the year so that it can cater to the requirements of the tourists and
suggested the different tribal bodies in Kohima to keep their Morung
operational throughout the year.
The CM congratulated the Horticulture
Department in completing the cafe in a short period of time.
During the inauguration of the Hornbill Cafe,
Secretary Commissioner Akumla Chuba mentioned that the Hornbill Cafe took four
months to complete with funding from the State Innovative Fund, 2023-24 and
hoped that the cafe would help in income generation for local people.
CM Rio also inaugurated the Unity Gate,
situated close to the Chathe River Bridge or Patkai Bridge, along the National
Highway 29 in Chumoukedima, on November 30.
Addressing the gathering during the
inaugural programme, CM Rio emphasized upon the importance of unity in human
habitation and said the name Unity Gate was chosen with the hope that it would
motivate Nagas to unite and foster peace.
The Nagaland CM urged the public to take
collective responsibility for the gate, which was damaged and caused road
obstruction.
He highlighted the Patkai Bridge
Junction as potential tourist spot and proposed plans for its development into
a clean space featuring food courts, cafes, toilet facilities and more.
The believed this transformation would
form a conducive environment for people to spend quality time, promote local
products and contribute to the overall appeal of the area.
The architecture of the gate has been
designed after the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the people of
Nagaland.
The dimensions of the gate are 55 feet
in length, 12 feet in breath, and a height of 56.5 feet.
It includes two carved gate monoliths,
four large wood carvings, and six stone boulders erected as decorative
elements.
The overall project cost is around Rs
180 lakh.
