In a noteworthy achievement, Devi Dada from
Arunachal Pradesh has become the first from the State to receive certification
as rafting and kayaking guide from the International Rafting Federation or IRF,
which is the official world rafting governing body.
Devi Dada got her Level 3 certification
during the IRF Guide, Training & Education course held at Rishikesh in
Uttarakhand, reported The Arunachal Times.
The International Rafting Federation is
the official world rafting governing body.
Devi Dada, originally hailing from
remote Dada village of East Kameng district, has been engaged professionally as
an assistant instructor with Leh-based adventure company Wet N Wild
Explorations.
She also works as a kayaking and rafting
guide on River Ganga in Rishikesh when the rafting season is closed in Ladakh
in winter.
Dada’s hard work has will soon take her
abroad as she received an international official invitation to work in France
for Season 2024.
However, the young woman has opted to go
there in the 2025 season as she wishes to gain further experience. Currently,
she is exploring River Siang with her guide and trainer Tsering Chotak, who
also owns Wet N Wild Explorations.
“I mostly work in the rivers of Ladakh,
like Zanskar and Indus. I started to take this field seriously from 2022
onwards. Since then, I have not looked back. But I continue to pursue my
studies too,” Devi Dada told The Arunachal Times expressing happiness over
getting certification from the IRF.
She attributed her in-depth knowledge
and skills to the guidance of teacher Tsering Chotak.
