Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,
during his visit to New Delhi, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi among many other
Central leaders and discussed about infrastructure development activities in
the State along with other important matter of historical and cultural
significance.
Dr Himanta also invited the PM to lay
the foundation stone for the Kamakhya Corridor Project, inaugurate the Tinsukia
Medical College and lay the foundation of Sivasagar Medical College and unveil
the statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat.
The Chief Minister wrote on X, “I had
the privilege to call upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji today.
Shared Assam’s immense gratitude for his continuous guidance & leadership
and briefed him on the ongoing pro-people programs during our interaction.”
Unveiling of a 150-foot tall statue with
a theme song will be the part of celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of
Lachit Barphukan, the valiant general of the Ahom kingdom.
Bir Lachit Borphukon, popular for his
historic victory against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Saraighat on the
Brahmaputra in the 17th century (1671 CE), is one of the bravest and greatest
military heroes Assam has ever known.
He represents a hero of Assamese pride,
and enjoys similar stature in the State as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj does in
Maharashtra.
Besides, Dr Himanta sought PM Modi’s
advice on the Assam Business Summit scheduled next year.
“Our aim is to establish it as a
platform to attract private investments and accelerate our economic growth,” he
wrote.
During his meeting with Railway Minister
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed the roadmap to enhance and
modernise the railway infrastructure in Assam.
Appreciating Vaishnaw, the Assam CM
wrote on X, “His insights on our newly released Semiconductor Policy were
immensely valuable.”
After meeting Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman to discuss the Central Government’s support for developmental
activities in the State, he tweeted, “Her unwavering support for Assam’s growth
story is commendable. I expressed our heartfelt gratitude for her continuous
support.”
