Audience experienced an unforgettable
musical journey as eminent pop group Bombay Vikings and Arunachali folk singer Dobom
Doji along with his band Dobom Doji Collective gave an energetic performance
during the OFMA festival.
OFMA stands for Orange Festival of Music
and Adventure, which is held annually at Dambuk, a small town located in the
Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh.
People, particularly who have grown up listening
to pop indie music in the ’90s, cheered to hits of that era like kya surat hai,
woh chali and chhod do aanchal among other. It was the band’s first performance
here after a few years of hiatus.
DDC is a folk fusion band including five
members with Dobom as the frontman. Their latest release, Melo Jajine, a
rendition of an old classic by Moge Doji, has been garnering praise.
The song essays the story of migration,
struggles, and settlement of the ancestors in the hills. The band aims to
revive the lost prayers of our forefathers, thereby keeping their spirits and
ethos alive.
The band members include Joe Kabak as lead
guitarist, Nyaamo Jini on rhythm guitar, Papu Dolo on bass, and Samuel Laye on
drums. Despite performing together for less than a year, the band has gained recognition
and appreciation from the audience.
Their songs, reflecting the lives of ancestors
and myths they created, have been a hit at the Dambuk Festival.
Additionally, the festival offered
adventure activities such as giant swings, free falls, zip-lining, wall or rock
climbing, and hot air balloons. A car rally exclusively for women was the
favourite.
OFAM not only captivates with its music
and adventure but also reportedly tantalizes taste buds with a diverse array of
local and international cuisines. Numerous stalls scattered around the festival
site promise a gastronomic delight for food lovers.
