Jammu’s Kashmiri Pandits, in a vibrant
display of cultural pride to boost the morale of a community in exile and
inspire their youth, organized a unique theatrical event ahead of the International
Pheran Day at Abhinav Theatre.
International Pheran Day is celebrated
in Kashmir as the first day of Chillai Kalan on December 21.
Wanwun, Vyueg Vachan, Rove
Wanwun, Vyueg Vachan, Rove is an event dripped
in the rich traditions of Kashmiri Pandits. It aimed to educate, enlighten, promote
and preserve their rich cultural heritage of attire, folklore, and traditional
music among youth and other people.
With this sole aim the organiser held Pheran
Ramp Show, where young enthusiasts showcased Pheran, a dominant symbol of the
region’s heritage and identity.
An Evocative Drama Presentation
Apart from the ramp show, the event included
a short play that depicted the life in Kashmir 34 years ago and its comparison
with the present. This distinctive drama presentation served as a robust reminder
of the changes that time has brought, underlining the significance of preserving
cultural identity amidst the shifting shades of time.
A Display of Unity & Cultural
Significance
This amalgamation of people was an
opportunity for the Kashmiri Pandit community to display solidarity. The event
garnered wide interest and was highlighted through a video shared on social
media.
Sharing her experience, participant
Bharti Kaul expressed, “The cultural programme, Wanwun, Vyueg Vachan, Rove and
the first-ever Pheran Ramp Show of traditional Kashmiri Pandit attire stole the
show. It aimed to showcase the Kashmiri culture and remind the youth of today
about the Kashmiri culture, attire, folklore, and traditional music”.
