The Income Tax Department conducted
extensive search at the residence and other properties of Trinamool Congress or
TMC MLA Bayron Biswas in Sagardighi on Wednesday. The other premises included hospitals,
a school and beedi manufacturing units.
Joint team of the Income Tax Department
officials and law enforcement personnel began early in the morning at multiple
properties owned by Biswas across West Bengal.
The TMC MLA’s current residence,
warehouse, nursing home, and multiple other establishments were raided.
Additionally, raids were also carried out at Byron’s school in Raghunathganj.
As per sources, the raids aimed to
collect information about the business transactions related to them.
Byron and others close to him,
responsible for overseeing his business, were reportedly quizzed and searched
at their homes by the Income Tax Department.
The raids at Bayron’s properties
occurred against the backdrop of another set of Income Tax raids at the
residence of TMC MLA in Domkal, Jafikul Islam.
Bayron Biswas, the lone Congress MLA in
West Bengal, jumped ship just after the 2023 Assembly Bypoll in the Sagardighi
constituency. Supported by the Left, Biswas had defeated Trinamool’s Debashish
Banerjee with a margin of nearly 23,000 votes in Sagardighi.
