Bharat is known for its unity in
diversity and Nagaland is no different. Taking note of this, Chief Minister
Neiphiu Rio stressed upon keeping alive the spirit of oneness even though the different
Naga tribes live into respective districts.
He was addressing the golden jubilee
celebrations of Phek districthood on the theme –Transcending in Truth – held at
Phek town local ground.
CM Rio appreciated Phek district and its
Chakhesang tribe for being most progressive and advanced, hardworking and
honest in nature, highlighting their achievements at the national and
international levels in education and sports fields.
He remarked the Village Development
Board that started from the district had now reached the entire State.
Even in competitive exams conducted by
the UPSC, NPSC, NSSB, etc, and board exams, people from the district, even
though categorised as backward, came out in flying colours and secured top
positions. The district had produced an Olympian 50 years after Dr T Ao.
Rio exhorted people to be consistent in
their pursuit for excellence, maintaining unity and urged to be grateful to the
pioneers and leaders for whom the district reached 50 long years’ of milestone.
The CM mentioned former leaders,
including N Theyo who inaugurated the district in 1973, Vamuzo, Melupra Vero, L
Mero and others who had been instrumental in leading not just the government
but the civil society.
He advised that to maintain peace among
the Nagas, they need to keep aside indecisiveness and untruthful and must make
truth and moral values their core principle.
CM Rio praised Chakhesang and Pochury
people living in Phek district for diligently upholding the moral values of
honesty and truthfulness, and preserving their traditional song and dances, for
which the district was rightly being called the “Land of Traditions”.
Earlier, Rio unveiled the 50th
anniversary monolith and released the jubilee souvenir and inaugurated the
newly constructed Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex.
The CM expressed hope that the office
would play a pivotal role in bringing development to the grassroots level and
serving the general public.
