The Assam Government want to expedite
work towards building Kanaklata University ahead of great freedom fighter and
martyr Kanaklata Baruah’s 100th anniversary that falls on December
22 next year. She had sacrificed her life during the ‘Quit India Movement’ by
taking a bullet shot.
For the purpose, Chief Minister Himanta
Biswa Sarma has urged the public of Gohpur to allocate approximately 500 bigha land
to establish the university where disciplines from political science to
artificial intelligence will be taught.
The setting up of Kanaklata University
in Gohpur would be a step towards fulfilling the vision of economic and
educational advancement propagated by CM Himanta.
The project promises to bolster the
region’s academic landscape and honour the legacy of Assam’s martyrs, whose
sacrifices are commemorated in memorials such as the ‘Swahid Stambh’ and ‘Swahid
Udyan’ in Guwahati.
Previously in October, Sri Sri
Dakshinpat Xatra of Majuli came forward to offer the land required for the
proposed university at Gohpur which Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had
recently announced.
Sri Sri Dakshinpat Xatra owns near about
625 bighas of land (lakheraj) at Aforakhat near National Highway 15, north of
Ghahigaon Chariali under the Halem revenue circle of Gohpur subdivision.
Responding to the people’s request, the
Xatradhikar has come forward to make this noble cause of the Assam Government and
the people a success.
