Sikkim, the Himalayan State that had
been facing brunt of natural disaster for many months, got central fund of ₹283.10
crore. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for releasing the amount to the State
as an additional tax devolution instalment.
Expressing gratitude on X, the Sikkim CM
said, “This funding will significantly boost Sikkim’s economic development,
supporting social welfare measures and infrastructure projects.”
The Northeastern State reeled under disastrous
flood in October this year as River Teesta ravaged road infrastructure and
communication network in addition to washing away a hydropower project dam at
Chungthang in North Sikkim.
Sikkim depends greatly on the Central Government
for monetary assistance for development and capital expenditure with its own
sources of revenue generation remaining scarce.
