The establishment of a sister city relationship between Janakpur and Ayodhya is proposed to be a result of joint efforts by Nepal and Bharat, as notified by the Nepalese Ambassador to India Shankar Prasad Sharma on December 22. Recently, a program organised by the Chamber of India, which was held in the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi, hosted Janakpur Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah and other dignitaries.
“Happy to receive Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah and other dignitaries from Janakpur Dham at @EONIndia. They were here to take part in a program organised by the Incredible Chamber of India. & are also working to set up sister city relationships between Janakpur and Ayodya,” the Nepalese Ambassador wrote on ‘X’.
In Lumbini recently, the Embassy of India in Nepal held the inaugural India-Nepal Cultural Festival which was organised in collaboration with Lumbini Development Trust and Lumbini Buddhist University. The festival proved to be a successful affair. The release from the Bharatiya Embassy cited, “The festival showcased the diverse cultural heritage and traditions of Bharat and Nepal, with a focus on Buddhism. The festival featured a Sand Mandala Drawing Art Exhibition organised by monk artists from Hemis Monastery in Ladakh, Bharat, a photo exhibition based on the photographs of well-known photographer Benoy Behl, a street food festival featuring Bharatiya and Nepali cuisines, and a cultural programme.”
A photo exhibition was opened as a result of the inauguration ceremony. The photo exhibition had a stellar collection of photographs of Buddhist heritage sites which laid out an elaborated perspective of the monument and the heritage of Buddhism, tracing the entire length of its timeline.
The Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal Sudan Kirati and Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary jointly inaugurated the festival.
