Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,
while gracing the International Gita Mahotsav, noted the deep cultural link between
Assam and Hindu sacred scripture Bhagavad Gita’s epic narrative.
The Assam CM poignantly described Lord
Krishna as Assam’s “son-in-law because he tied nuptial knot with Rukmini,
daughter of Assam. Subsequently, our relationship with Lord Krishna is that of
a son-in-law…”
After attending the event, Dr Himanta
expressed his experience through multiple posts on X and wrote, “Visiting the
International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra is a once in a life time experience.
I extend compliments to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar ji and the
entire team for this grand celebration of our civilisation.”
Sharing a picture, he wrote, “This
fascinating image, I saw at Kurukshetra’s Geeta Gyan Sanstha, is a testament of
Bharat being a contiguous civilisation that predates 1947 and goes back 5,000
years ago. All of you can see Assam, then known as Pragjyotishpur, participated
in Mahabharat war with the elephant cavalry.”
