The Assam Government has planned to expand
the Orunodoi program, which will lead to a new era of women empowerment in the
Northeastern State. Under the State Government initiative, as many as 40 lakh
women members of Self Help Groups will be provided ₹25,000 each in two phases
so that they can take up productive activities.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared
a video on X where he talked about the initiatives taken by the State
Government and its expansion plan.
In the video, he said prior to Orunodoi
scheme, women in Assam “got a government ration card, 5 kg of rice, and medical
assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh” to transform their lives.
Continuing to empower women of Assam, the
State Government started the Orunodoi scheme with 19 lakh beneficiaries on
October 2 in 2020. And now, it reached 27 lakh beneficiaries, said the CM.
Referring to the women with respect as “mothers
of our Assam”, he noted that other than continuously doing their household
chores, maintaining homes and family affairs, they work hard by associating
themselves with self-help groups to earn money.
To help these “mothers”, the Assam
Government has come up with a new scheme under which “as many as 40 lakh women associated
with self-help group will be provided Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts so that
every woman can take up work for economic development. And in the future, the
government will disburse another Rs 15,000 in their bank accounts to the women,
who will spend Rs 10,000 on productive work”.
CM Himanta expressed his aim and
determination to usher into a day “when every poor family of Assam should get
the benefit of the Orunodoi scheme” and in that direction the government is “trying
to take the State forward”.
Jija Mata Award
Meanwhile, CM Himanta noted that mothers
play an important role in shaping up the career of every person. To acknowledge
the untold sacrifices made by the mothers of the sport stars, who have made a
mark for themselves, Dr Himanta gave away the Jija Mata Award to 9 such
personalities for their contribution in shaping up Assam’s sporting talents.
