Rahul Gandhi, who is spearheading Bharat Nyay Yatra, faced criticism from Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin, who advised the Congress leader first to address past injustices to people of the Northeastern Region before embarking on his journey.
The Assam Deputy Speaker brought to light historical grievances committed during the Congress rule, including deaths of close to 900 youth in the Assam Movement and casualties in many other violent incidents across the Northeastern States.
The Bharat Nyay Yatra, set to cover 14 States and 85 districts from Manipur in east to Maharashtra in west with 6,000 km distance, aims to focus on economic, social, and political justice, with special emphasis on livelihood issues such as inflation and unemployment.
The march, commencing on January 14, is strategically planned to end around March 20, coinciding with the declaration schedule for the next Lok Sabha elections.
The Deputy Speaker defused the speculations linked to the impact of Rahul Gandhi’s march on the upcoming elections. In fact he forecasted a loss for the Grand Old Party in the Northeastern constituencies.
Citing the Bharat Jodo Yatra by Rahul Gandhi as ineffective, Momin reminded that this yatra too will have no effect on collective psychology of the people in light of the region’s ongoing trajectory of development.
Momin blamed the Congress Party of historically splitting the country through policies like Article 370 whereas the current progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has brought development and peace to the region, including free rations to 80 crore people, he noted.
The Deputy Speaker highlighted about the region’s growth under the Modi Government through improvements in infrastructure, education and industry.
