Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 27 paid tribute to the former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of the country on his birth anniversary. Taking to social media platform, X, the Union Home Minister talked about Jaitley’s contributions to the social and political life of the country. Shah further mentioned that he will always remain in our collective memory.
“Remembering an astute lawmaker Arun Jaitley Ji on his birth anniversary. Jaitley Ji also gave his vast expertise in the field of law for guarding the rights of the citizens. Through his contributions to our social and political life, Arun Jaitley Ji will always remain in our collective memory,” Shah wrote on X.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also paid his tribute via X, in which Jaishankar wrote, “Fondly remembering Shri Arun Jaitley ji on his Jayanti today. His dedication to the nation is a source of motivation for many.”
Jaitley was a Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart who passed away at the age of 66 in August 2019. He also held the designation of the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) from 1999 to 2013. Jaitley also managed to be the four-time member of the Rajya Sabha. Additionally, he became a Cabinet minister in the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2000. He also acted as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from June 2009 to 2014. In the first term of the Modi government, Jaitley was the Finance and Corporate Affairs minister and also held portfolios of Defence and Information and Broadcasting.
