Assam’s Gunotsav, which created ripples among students and people from all walks of life for its role in improving educational standards, is scheduled to make a comeback on January 3 and will continue till February 9 next year.
This initiative, unfolding in three distinct phases, is expected to leave an indelible mark on as many as 42,76,881 students of Classes I to IX from at least 88,525 schools. Watch the video shared by Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma where students are expressing happiness over such event:

Gunotsav Phase 1
- Self-evaluation: January 3
- External evaluation: January 4 to 6
- Date: January 4 to January 6
- Districts: Barpeta, Karimganj, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sibsagar, South Salmara-Mancachar and Udalguri
Gunotsav Phase 2
- Self-evaluation: January 9
- External evaluation: 10 to 12
- Date: January 10 and end on January 12
- Districts: Baksa, Biswanath, Chirang, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro), Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Tamulpur
Gunotsav Phase 3
- Self-evaluation: February 5
- External evaluation: February 6, 7 and 8
- Date: February 6 to February 8
- Districts: Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Cachar, Nalbari, Morigaon, Dima Hasao, Majuli and West Karbi Anglong
- Result Date: 11 am, April 15
In line with a similar educational programme from Gujarat, the initiative was first introduced by the Assam Government in 2017. Apart from evaluating academic performance, it includes co-curricular activities and community service in its assessment criteria, ensuring a holistic approach to education quality enhancement.
