The appointment of three Manipur-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as chiefs of central paramilitary forces was sanctioned on December 28 which made Nina Singh the first woman to head the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Singh is a 1998 batch IPS officer currently serving as the Special Director General of CISF. CISF is a central paramilitary force that overlooks the management of airports, Delhi Metro, government buildings and strategic buildings throughout the country.
Singh also holds an additional charge of CISF DG since the superannuation of Sheel Vardhan Singh on August 31. Singh joined the IPS rank as a Manipur cadre officer but was later moved to the Rajasthan cadre. Singh will remain at the helm till her retirement on July 31, 2024.
In the ongoing meeting of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, it has approved the Intelligence Bureau officer Rahul Rasgotra’s appointment as Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) chief and Anish Dayal Singh has been given the designation of the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Rasgotra is a 1989-batch IPS officer who currently sits as a special director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and has spent close to three decades in the IB. The appointment of Rasgotra finds a way at a time when the paramilitary forces are set to have an additional team of intelligence officers for surveillance and intelligence gathering. His appointment to the post is till September 30, 2025
Anish, a 1988-batch IPS officer, has an additional charge of the CRPF DG’s post for the last few weeks besides heading the ITBP. He will head the CRPF until his superannuation on December 31, 2024.
