As many as 151 Myanmarese soldiers escaped the ongoing fierce battle between the ruling military and resistance forces and entered border village Tuisentlang in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, said an Assam Rifles officer on Saturday.
The Myanmarese Army personnel, popularly known as the Tatmadaw, fled with arms after their camps in Parva village on the other side of the international border were ravaged by the Arakan Army fighters, also known as Myanmar People’s Army or People’s Defence Force or the Chin Defense Force, and the Chin National Army on Friday. More such migration is expected owing to the conflict.
The escaped soldiers, some of them critically injured, approached the Assam Rifles posted at Tuisentlang and received first aids from the personnel of the Indian security force.
The Assam Rifles have begun the repatriation process of the Myanmar Army personnel, and they will be sent back soon in close coordination with the State police personnel.
A total of 104 Myanmar soldiers entered Mizoram after their military camps along the Myanmar-Bharat border were overrun by pro-democracy militia known as People’s Defence Force or PDF in November.
