Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Gujarat’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records for performing mass Surya Namaskar with over 4,000 participants across 108 locations and 51 different categories on Monday.
Urging all citizens to make Surya Namaskar a part of their daily activity for its immense benefits, PM Modi wrote, “Gujarat welcomed 2024 with an outstanding feat…! The number 108, we all know, holds a special significance in the Indian culture… This is indeed a true testament to our commitment to Yoga and our cultural heritage.”

Enthusiastic participants from diverse groups, including students, families and senior citizens thronged the venue. Other than common people from different walks of life, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi took part in the celebrations.
The record-breaking Surya Namaskar event, solidifying the State’s commitment to wellness and cultural heritage, was held at the majestic Modhera Sun Temple.
Officially announcing about the feat, Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar said, “This is a new title, as before, no one had attempted to break this record. After reviewing all the evidence and seeing them perform here in Modhera… they have set a new Guinness World Record title for most people doing Surya Namaskar successfully…”
