Seven security personnel were left injured in a gunfight in Manipur amid recent violence in the state this morning, the police said. Officials informed that four police commandos and three BSF soldiers were injured in this gunfight between suspected insurgents in Manipur’s border town Moreh, following which curfew was reimposed in the five valley districts of the state, namely in Thoubal, Imphal East and Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, officials said.
Currently, the security personnel are in critical condition and they have been airlifted to an Imphal hospital for treatment.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that they speculate the involvement of foreign mercenaries in the ambush.
“Search and combing operations are going on in full swing. We are suspecting the involvement of foreign mercenaries from the Myanmar side. It is our commitment to the people of the state and Bharat that we won’t surrender to this kind of pressure,” Mr Singh said.
“We will undertake necessary, possible steps to counter the terrorists,” he said.
The Chief Minister has also paid a visit to the injured security personnel in the Imphal hospital.
In a separate incident of gunfight, four security personnel were injured with suspected insurgents in Moreh last week.
The CM Mr Singh, in a video message yesterday, condemned the fresh spell of violence and made an appeal to the people to maintain peace.
“I express immense sadness over the killing of innocent people. We have mobilised the police teams to catch the culprits. I fold my hands and appeal to Lilong residents where the incident happened to help the government in finding the culprits. I promise that the government will do everything in its capacity to provide justice under the law.” he said.
