Assam
Govt’s Vision For 2024
Enhancement
of Roads Standards: Among the many new
things, the Assam Government will take up the work of road network up to 3,000
km which will be transformed to the standard of National Highways. Generally,
State Highways have width of 5.3. Under this project, 10 meters of length and
breadth will be increased.
Education
Infrastructure: Two additional medical colleges
will start functioning this year in Assam, nine new nursing colleges will come
up in Dibrugarh, Sibasagar and Karimganj. The State Government will increase academic
infrastructure manifolds including building of several law colleges and BEd
colleges. Under a big flagship scheme, the government will give a completely
new look to the high schools to modernise these by spending Rs 8 crore. The
construction of 200 high schools will begin in February. The government will gradually
change the infrastructure of 200 schools in Assam every year and build 500
schools immediately before 2026.
New
Schools for Tea Gardens: This year, the Assam
Government will establish 300 more schools in 100 tea gardens for the development
and education of tea workers’ children.
CCTV
Installation Across Guwahati: To enhance security, bolster
public safety and deter criminal activities across Guwahati, CCTV cameras will
be installed throughout the city.
Hassle-Free
Issuance of Driving Licenses: To facilitate hassle
free experience while obtaining driving licenses, the need for physical visits
to government offices and bureaucratic hurdles will be eliminated so that citizens
can apply and receive these documents remotely. For this, power will be granted
to motor vehicle institutes and dealers to provide licences to people. This
will also make the process corruption free.
Fitness
Services: To make fitness a specialised job, Assam
State Transport Corporation or ASTC will start a fitness service or fitness
certified centre at ISBT in every district across the State. Here too, the
process of getting fitness certificate will be made hassle free by removing
bureaucratic hurdles.
Picturesque
Riverfronts: To transform Guwahati’s riverfronts
into picturesque locations and improving its aesthetic appeal, the Transport
department will relocate old ships and ship garage out of sight, introduce new,
state-of-the-art vessels for leisure and tourism at the Bharalu area near
Shukleshwar Temple. Apart from this, it will make the area a vibrant terminal
for modern ships, attracting residents and tourists, who can enjoy at anytime
without fear.

Diplomas In Driving: The Assam Government
will engage educational institutions such as Gauhati University and Royal
Global University to offer post-graduate diplomas in driving. This initiative
aims to streamline the licensing process and reduce dependence on government
officers for enforcement. Similarly, Motor Vehicle Training Institutes will be established
and these will impart training and driving lessons across Assam. Besides creating
jobs for unemployed people, it will remove the bureaucratuc red tapism.
