The National Investigation Agency conducted searches at 31 locations across Rajasthan and Haryana in connection with the murder of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi on January 3. Gogamedi was a member of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, foundation of which was laid by the late Lokendra Singh Kalvi in 2006.
The Karni Sena chief at his residence was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jaipur on December 5. The three assailants initially sat down to have tea with Gogamedi at his house and later opened fire on him. In retaliatory firing, one of the assailants was killed. The other two assailants are identified as Rohit Rathore from Jaipur and Nitin Fauji from Haryana’s Mahendragarh.
Gangster Rohit Godara assumed responsibility for the killing saying that an action was required due to Gogmedi’s alleged collaboration with their adversaries. Godara has affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. This criminal group also faces the accusations of orchestrating the assassination of the renowned Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022.
After the incident, on December 28, the Rajasthan government demolished the house of one accused in the shooting citing that it was constructed illegally. The civic authorities in Jaipur razed down Rohit Rathore’s house in Jaipur’s Khatipura area.
The Police announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on providing information about them which led to their arrest. Their arrest happened in Chandigarh’s Sector 22 during a joint operation launched by the Delhi Police and Rajasthan Police on December 10.
Reportedly, the shooters, Nitin Fauji and Rohit Rathore, visited the Gogamedi’s house with another person, Naveen Shekhawat.
The Karni Sena gained widespread attention in 2018 during protests against the film “Padmavat,” featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Karni Sena activists vehemently opposed the film while simultaneously calling for its ban.
