The Sikkim Government is mulling to set up two run-of-the-river hydropower projects at Upper Myong Chu and Lower Myong Chu jointly. Subsequently, Kundan Green Energy was awarded the two projects, which will be worth of Rs 120 crore and Rs 80 crore, respectively.
Upper Myong Chu facility will create 12 mw of electricity, whereas the Lower Myong Chu plant will generate 6 mw. With this, Kundan Green Energy’s hydropower generation will be enhanced to over 50 mw in Sikkim, stated the official press release.
The Energy & Power Department and Sikkim Power Development Corporation are the two companies accountable for developing hydro projects less than 25 mw. Projects of 25 mw and above are responsibility of Independent Power Producer or IPP.
Talking about the company’s remarkable contribution to the renewable energy sector, director Apurve Goel stated Kundan Green Energy has a robust and growing presence and its commendable strength is excellence in execution.
The industry has average commissioning period of 8 to 10 years while the Kundan Green Energy’s mean average, including greenfield plants is just 4 to 5 years, he continued.
Goel elucidated on another exceptional strength. His company’s many running projects across Bharat were acquired in a condition of total chronic shut-down since years owing to multiple factors.
However, dedicated team renewed, upgraded and optimized these redundant projects to achieve optimal performance in a record time of two years even during Covid pandemic, the director concluded expressing enthusiasm to receive the Sikkim Government’s trust.
Besides, Kundan Green Energy has four functioning projects totaling 35 MW at Lower Lagyap, Meyong Chu, Kalex Khola, and Rabun Chu in this Northeastern State.
