Meghalaya’s unwavering commitment to
this initiative of the Centre has been acknowledged as the State bagged the
second runner-up spot at the esteemed One District One Product or ODOP Awards
for the year 2023.
ODOP initiative, a part of the Central Government’s
vision for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, targets to cultivate equitable regional
development and encourage unique products from each district on a national and
international level.
Meghalaya’s feat was declared by Chief
Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of External Affairs Minister S
Jaishankar, who inaugurated the event in New Delhi.
CM Sangma talked at length about Meghalaya’s
strategic initiatives like mission mode programmes, the creation of unique
brands, Geographic Indication or GI tagging, and robust marketing strategies. All
of these contributed to this success and enabled local goods to compete at
international level.
Meghalaya Government Commissioner and
Secretary Vijay Kumar D accepted the award on behalf of the State. He expressed
joy on receiving the award that can be an inspiration for farmers and skilled
artisans.
The Conrad K Sangma Government raised
awareness, enhanced production and sales infrastructure, implemented specific
registration processes and introduced new technologies to actively support the
ODOP initiative.
It is pertinent to mention that
Meghalaya exported Khasi Mandarin Oranges to Dubai successfully, displaying its ability
to create valuable market links.
