Tripura sculptors’ fine work will get
admirers in Varanasi, the poll constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Uttar
Pradesh, as many carvings will be installed and beautify various locations of the
city, said Union Culture Minister of State Meenakshi Lekhi in Agartala’s Nazrul
Kalakshetra.
She was there there to attend the 45-day
workshop held jointly by the Lalitkala Akademi and North East Zone Cultural
Centre or NEZCC. The Railways and Culture Ministries sponsored the project.
Tripura College of Art and Crafts students
were among the 50 plus artists, who participated in the workshop and Lekhi
talked extensively with many artists and sculptors as well inspected their
creations.
Expressing pride over Bharat’s rich
culture, beautiful heritage and traditional civilization, Lekhi exuded hope the
nation would metamorphose into a more powerful one if everyone respects each
other’s culture, language and religion.
Varanasi attracts around 10 crore people
every year. Taking note of this, the minister said the work of Tripura artists
would reach people throughout the country. Moreover, it will attract tourists to
the entire Northeast owing to the initiative.
She insisted to focus more on spots like
Chhabimura and Unakoti, which leave visitors awestruck because of its traditional
Indian culture.
During her Tripura tour, Lekhi paid a
courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and went to Chhabimura, known for
its panels of rock carvings on the steep mountain wall on the bank of River Gomati.
