Amid increasing tensions between Bharat and the Maldives after a contentious post by ministers of the island nation in context of Lakshadweep and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, prominent Bharatiya celebrities have taken to social media to express their solidarity with the archipelago and encourage fellow citizens to explore its beauty.
The diplomatic row commenced when a Maldives minister accused Bharat of targeting the nation and claimed that Bharat faced challenges in competing with the Maldives in beach tourism. Bharatiya celebrities have come forward in response to promote the cause of Lakshadweep and showcase the diverse and enchanting beauty of the Bharat islands.
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar got on X to express his astonishment at the derogatory comments that came from some Maldives public figures.
“Came across comments from Maldives’ prominent public figures passing hateful and racist comments on citizens of Bharat. Surprised that they are behaving in such a way to a country that sends them the maximum number of tourists. We are good to our neighbours, why should we tolerate this unprovoked hate? I’ve visited the Maldives many times and have always praised it, but dignity comes first. Let us pledge to #ExploreIndianIslands and support our tourism,” Kumar posted on X.
John Abraham, another popular Bollywood actor, praised the hospitality and marine life in Lakshadweep.
“The amazing Bharatiya hospitality and the idea of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ comes with a vast marine life to explore. Lakshadweep is the place to be,” he wrote.
Actress Shraddha Kapoor took to X to express her desire for exploring Lakshadweep’s pristine beaches and coastlines.
“These images and memes make me super FOMO now. Lakshadweep encompasses such pristine beaches and coastlines, thriving local culture, I’m close to booking an impulse chhutti. This year, why not #ExploreIndianIslands,” she posted on X.
Actor Salman Khan also expressed admiration for the beautiful and clean beaches of Lakshadweep.
“It is so cool to witness our Hon PM Narendra bhai Modi at the beautiful clean and stunning beaches of Lakshadweep, and the best part is that yeh hamare India mein hain,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, the famous ‘Pyaar ka Punchnama’ lead Kartik Aaryan said, “Incredible Bharat is not just limited to a tag. Our beautiful country houses a selection of the most incredible and stunning locales and #Lakshadweep is an example of it- a heaven like place in Bharat itself! Can’t wait to explore this beautiful Bharatiya island. #ExploreIndianIslands”
Randeep Hooda, the lead of the critically acclaimed movie ‘Highway’, wrote on X account, “Bharat is so beautiful. Was over awed owing to the pristine beauty and the rich history of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the shoot of Kalapani chapter of Veer Sarvarkar’s life…a must visit. #ExploreIndianIslands”
Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar further took part in the campaign, reminiscing about his experience in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg recently.
“250+ days ago we celebrated my 50th birthday in Sindhudurg! The coastal town gave us everything we wanted, and more. Gorgeous locations along with wonderful hospitality left us with a treasure trove of memories. Bharat has been blessed with beautiful coastlines and pristine islands. Our ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ philosophy offers us to explore more, with so many memories waiting to be created,” Mr Tendulkar wrote.
The diplomatic tension between Bharat and the Maldives has fuelled in the recent months, particularly once President Mohamed Muizzu assumed office in November last year. The new president has hinted at a shift in foreign policy, signalling closer ties with China and a departure from the earlier “India first” approach.
