Amid the Central Government’s efforts to
bring everlasting peace to the region and stiff opposition by Paresh Baruah led
faction of ULFA for dialogues, the Indian Army reportedly has launched drone
attacks in the dense forest of Myanmar, targeting the camp belonging to
outlawed outfit on January 7.
The Myanmar camp of the United
Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) is among many handling cross-border
operations against Bharat, providing refuge and training to fresh recruits.
Paresh Baruah faction through media
reports claimed the attacks have been initiated by the Indian Army at 4.10 am, 4.12
am and 4.20 am from Arunachal Pradesh’s border area. The first two were
successful while the last one failed though injured two members of ULFA.
ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah continues
to oppose peace dialogues with the Central Government and skipped recent historic
tripartite peace pact by other factions with the Centre and Assam Government.
The group has been able to sustain partly
due to backing by external factors such Northeast Bharat and Myanmar’s other
insurgent outfits.
The ULFA(I) had taken responsibility of attacks
in few parts of Upper Assam districts, challenging Bharat and Assam’s aim to
achieve lasting peace and security in the region.
