The Wrestling Federation of India or WFI,
under suspension, does not have the authority to organize the Senior National
Championships. If they do, it will be considered “unsanctioned” and “unrecognised”,
stated the Union Sports Ministry.
Few days prior to this, the federation’s
newly-appointed president Sanjay Singh had announced the hosting of the U-15
and U-20 nationals at Nandini Nagar in Uttar Pradesh’s the Gonda district by the
year end.
The Indian Olympic Association-IOA is
directed to constitute an ad-hoc committee to manage and control the WFI’s affairs.
Sanjay Singh on the other hand declined to recognize it. He is willing to
resort to legal guidance.
The Union Sports Ministry argued the WFI
president has no authority to issue circular regarding conduct of any event or
to use the WFI’s letterhead wherein he claimed affiliation of the Youth Affairs
& Sports Ministry.
The ministry warned any championships or
competitions held by the suspended members of the WFI will be treated as
unsanctioned and unrecognized competitions”.
Accolades won in championships conducted
by the WFI will be of no consequence and will not be considered for eligibility
under any scheme of the government or appointment to government jobs or to get
admission in school and colleges under sports quota, sports awards, etc.
