The Centre has announced a ₹45,000 crore
investment to tap full potentiality of river cruise tourism and transform
Bharat’s inland waterways into dynamic commercial channels for economic growth
by 2047.
The fund is divided in two parts:
1. ₹35,000
crore for cruise vessels
2. ₹10,000
crore for cruise terminal infrastructure
The decision was taken at the inaugural
Inland Waterways Development Council or IWDC meeting in West Bengal’s capital
city Kolkata.
Union Shipping and Ports Minister
Sarbananda Sonowal chaired the meeting in presence of State ministers and
industry leaders and drew their attention towards the IWDC’s aim of sustainable
development for a Self Reliant Bharat by the culmination of Amrit Kaal.
