A religious procession in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur city, organized in preparation for the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, was disrupted as a group hurled stones at participants.
The incident occurred during the procession when individuals associated with Hindu organizations were distributing yellow rice at around 8.30 pm on Monday. The attack resulted in one person sustaining injuries.
Eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, and the police are actively searching for other suspects. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure have been enforced in specific areas of Shajapur, including Magaria, Kachhiwada, and Lalpura.
Superintendent of Police Yashpal Rajput assured the situation is under control, with additional patrolling to maintain peace.
Injured participant Lalit recounted the sudden attack during the rally and expressed being overpowered by the assailants. Following the incident, workers from Hindu organizations gathered at the police station, demanding immediate arrests and suggesting punitive measures like bulldozing the houses of the accused.
Local MLA Arun Bhimawad and Dewas MP Mahendra Solanki addressed the protesters, assuring strict action against the perpetrators. An FIR has been registered against 24 identified individuals and 15 to 20 unidentified persons in connection with the stone-pelting incident.
MP Solanki labeled the disruption as a planned conspiracy and pledged necessary actions, including the demolition of the accused individuals’ homes, to maintain peace.
