Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, hailed as Bharat’s top pacer in 2023, has been honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award.
Despite the Indian cricket team’s setbacks in both the World Test Championship and the World Cup against Australia, Shami’s remarkable performance with the ball during the World Cup stood out.
During the World Cup campaign, Shami delivered an outstanding performance, securing 24 wickets in just seven games. In the semi-finals against New Zealand, he played a crucial role with figures of 7/57.
Besides, Shami holds the record for the highest number of wickets by an Indian in World Cups, amassing a total of 55 wickets in 18 games.
Although Shami and the Indian team couldn’t clinch the trophy, the Arjuna Award serves as a well-deserved recognition for one of India’s finest cricketers.
President Droupadi Murmu presented Shami with the award, and the fast bowler expressed his pride on Instagram, acknowledging the support of his teammates, family and fans throughout his career.
Cricket superstar Virat Kohli congratulated Shami on the achievement.
