In the largest drug seizure in Assam, various types of contraband valued at over Rs 100 crore were confiscated in Karimganj district. The operation, carried out collaboratively by the special task force of Assam Police and Karimganj district police, led to the arrest of four drug peddlers.
The seized drugs, brought into Assam from Mizoram, include 5.1 kg of heroin, 64,000 Yaba tablets, and four packets of foreign cigarettes.
The operation was initiated based on information about the movement of drugs from Mizoram.
The police intercepted a car with a Mizoram registration plate, leading to the discovery of the concealed contraband. Among the four arrested individuals is a woman from Mizoram, along with two others from Thenzawl in Mizoram, and one from Karimganj.
STF Deputy Inspector General Parthasarathi Mahanta stated this could be the largest drug seizure in Northeastern Bharat in terms of market value, emphasizing the impact of continuous and effective operations by Assam Police on increasing narcotics prices.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam Police for the successful operation, calling it the biggest drug haul in the State.
Assam Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh expressed gratitude for the appreciation, reaffirming the police’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Assam.
