Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reported hack attempt on his Facebook account possibly by operators from Pakistan. The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, with the CM stating that unknown hackers made an attempt to compromise his Facebook page. This comes shortly after CM Himanta exposed a fake video distorting his speech, expressing concerns about misinformation being spread by malicious groups with criminal intent.
The Chief Minister, in a social media post, urged the public to understand how certain groups distort speeches with the criminal intention of spreading disinformation and communal disharmony, especially as elections approach. He assured the law would catch up with those behind such activities.
Just a day after this exposure, the attempted hack raises concerns about cybersecurity, and investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators. Assam Director General of Police or DGP GP Singh responded to the earlier incident, assuring the Assam CID would register a criminal case and probe those responsible for creating and spreading the fake video.
The recent bid to hack Dr Himanta’s Facebook account adds another layer to the challenges posed by cyber threats in the political landscape.
