The Central Government has sanctioned a significant sum of Rs 1,782 crore for the construction of a new 82-kilometer greenfield road in Arunachal Pradesh. This road, stretching from Pango to Jorging in the Upper Siang district, is strategically positioned near the Line of Actual Control with China, enhancing connectivity to sensitive border areas.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to improve road networks in Arunachal Pradesh, including the ambitious Trans-Arunachal Highway or TAH and other inter-corridors. The total expenditure for these projects is estimated to be around Rs 40,000 crore.
The recent allocation follows a previous sanction in December 2023, where Rs 625 crore was approved for an Intermediate Lane Road connecting Tato to Monigong. The greenfield road from Pango to Jorging is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing accessibility and may have strategic implications.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed gratitude to Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for this allocation, emphasizing the transformative impact of the highway project on the State’s connectivity and economic growth.
