Indore and Surat have emerged as the
cleanest cities in Bharat, securing the coveted titles in the Central
Government’s annual cleanliness survey. The results, announced today, also
revealed Navi Mumbai retaining its position as the third cleanest city in the
nation.
In the ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023’
category for the ‘Best-Performing States,’ Maharashtra claimed the top spot,
with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh following closely.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the
awards to the deserving cities at a prestigious event attended by Union Housing
and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other dignitaries.
Indore, an environmental steward,
clinched the title of the cleanest city for an impressive seventh consecutive
year, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining exemplary sanitation standards.
The survey also recognized Maharashtra’s
Sasvad as the cleanest city among those with a population of less than 1 lakh.
Chhattisgarh’s Patan and Maharashtra’s Lonavala secured the second and third
positions in this category, respectively.
Varanasi was acknowledged as the best
and cleanest Ganga town, closely followed by Prayagraj in the rankings.
Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh
achieved the top rank in the category of the cleanest cantonment boards.
The Swachh Survekshan 2023 witnessed the
participation of 4,447 urban local bodies, receiving a remarkable 12 core
citizen responses. The government proudly claims it to be the world’s largest
cleanliness survey, showcasing Bharat’s commitment to maintaining a high
standard of cleanliness and hygiene across its cities and towns.
