In the midst of ongoing controversy surrounding
the refusal of an invitation to the consecration ceremony of Ayodhya’s Ram
Temple by Congress, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared an old
photograph of Rahul Gandhi at Afghanistan’s Babur Tomb.
Blaming the Gandhis of exhibiting Hindu-hatred,
Dr Himanta pointed to three generations of the Gandhi family visiting the
historical site, raising questions about their stance on Hindu sentiments.
CM Himanta shared the purported photo on
X, emphasizing the family’s frequent visits to the Babur Tomb, and questioned
the apparent disdain for Ram Lala and Hindus.
The Congress, clarifying its position on
the Ayodhya event, stated invitees Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir
Ranjan Chowdhury would not attend as it is ‘clearly a BJP-RSS event’.
Further he cited the temple construction
is not yet complete. This announcement triggered a bitter exchange between the
BJP and Congress, with the former labelling the latter as ‘anti-Hindu.’
Earlier too, CM Himanta made reference
to Jawaharlal Nehru’s actions at the Somnath Temple. He argued history would
continue to judge the Congress as an ‘anti-Hindu’ party, suggesting that by
accepting the invitation, the Congress could have symbolically apologized to
the Hindu community.
Despite the discord, Samajwadi Party
leader Dimple Yadav expressed her willingness to attend the event.
