Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a
historic moment by inaugurating the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari-Nhava Sheva
Atal Setu, Bharat’s longest bridge, located in Maharashtra on Friday. The
inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Maharashtra Governor Ramesh
Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra
Fadnavis.
Atal Setu, extending its span across the
sea, stands as the longest sea bridge in the country, promising enhanced
connectivity. With a total cost exceeding Rs 17,840 crore, the
21.8-kilometer-long, 6-lane bridge comprises approximately 16.5 km over the sea
and 5.5 km on land. This architectural marvel is poised to reduce travel time
from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, South Bharat, and bolster connectivity between Mumbai
Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
The foundation stone for Atal Setu was
laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2016, and its completion signifies a
significant milestone in the infrastructure development of the region.
Earlier in the day, on the occasion of
National Youth Day, PM Modi inaugurated the 27th National Youth Festival at
Tapovan Ground in Maharashtra’s Nashik.
Stressing the pivotal role of Bharat’s youth
in the nation’s progress, he encouraged the use of local products and
discouraged substance abuse. The Prime Minister’s visit to Maharashtra
underscores the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and infrastructure
enhancement.
