The Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP has
reaffirmed its authority in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council-NCHAC located
in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. The saffron party clinched 25 out of the 30
seats in the council election, maintaining its stronghold in the region.
Out of the 30-member North Cachar Hills
Autonomous Council, 28 members are elected, while two are nominated. The Assam
State Election Commission officially declared the results, revealing the BJP’s
victory in 25 council seats. This includes six seats won uncontested and an
additional three secured by independent candidates. The intense counting
process commenced at 8 am on Friday, concluding late in the night.
Incumbent Chief Executive Member of
NCHAC, Debolal Garlosa, emerged victorious in the Dehangi council constituency.
Meanwhile, former militant leader Niranjan Hojai secured a win from the
Hatikhali constituency.
The election for 22 seats in the NCHAC
took place on January 8, witnessing an impressive voter turnout of 85.78 per cent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed
gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their unwavering support for the BJP.
“Gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao
for their faith in BJP Assam,” he said adding the BJP will always take care of people’s
aspirations and appreciated Party Karyakartas for their hard work.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa
Sarma acknowledged the significance of the victory, emphasizing the support
received from the Christian community, constituting nearly 35 per cent of the
region’s population.
He wrote on X, “This victory stands out
for another reason: nearly 35 per cent of the people in this beautiful region
belong to the Christian community. Their blessings manifest the success of
Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas aur Sabka Prayas. I extend my gratitude to every BJP
Karyakarta for their hard work.”
BJP chief JP Nadda extended his thanks
to the people of Dima Hasao, highlighting their trust in the BJP and extending congratulations
to party workers for their dedicated efforts.
In a post on X, he stated, “Gratitude to
the people of Dima Hasao for placing their trust in BJP Assam. This victory
shows the people’s approval for the developmental works carried out by our
double-engine government under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji.
I congratulate our party karyakartas, who worked with full rigour in reaching
out to the people.”
