Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled
the new building of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research
or NIPER worth over Rs 157 crore in Assam capital Guwahati, marking a remarkable
milestone for Bharat’s pharmaceutical future.
Dr Mandaviya accentuated the government’s
commitment to foster a sustainable healthcare system through NIPER, which will
be a centre of research, innovation and job generation, contributing to Bharat’s
global leadership in medicine technology and pharmaceuticals.
Funds from the Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman
Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) will support the development of
healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast. With a total allocation of Rs
404.22 crore for 80 units, the initiative aims to enhance healthcare
accessibility. Currently, two units have been inaugurated, and foundation
stones have been laid for 49 new buildings.
Other Major Steps In Health Sector
- A network of cancer treatment centres will
be set up across the Northeast region - Foundation stones were laid for NIPER
Hyderabad and Raebareli - Five RIPANS facilities in Mizoram
capital Aizawl were dedicated to the nation - Foundation stones of over 80 units of
health were laid in Northeastern States except for Sikkim
NIPERs, Dr Mandaviya said, are on the
path of making a self-reliant Bharat in the pharmaceutical and MedTech sector. It
will act as a bridge linking education, knowledge, business and research.
He further mentioned NIPER has become a prominent
name in the field of technical and higher education across Bharat with about
8,000 students becoming successful in the professional field. NIPER also has
more than 380 patents registered in its name.
