Recently, the fog alert was issued by Delhi airport as reduced visibility affects a good number of flights, urging fliers to stay updated about the flight details.
Delhi as well as parts of northern Bharat remain engulfed in dense fog which hampers visibility and poses serious challenges for flights and trains linking the national capital with the rest of the country.
The temperature dropped to 3.3 degrees on the morning of January 15, the coldest this season. The schools are also scheduled to open in the capital city today after a two-week winter break. However, the timings have been restricted owing to severe cold.
Eighteen trains are delayed today because of fog. In this respect, Delhi airport too has issued a dense fog alert as thousands of passengers wait patiently for their flights. Fliers have been encouraged to closely monitor the flight details as delays are usual on foggy mornings.
Close to 168 flights have been delayed and 84 flights cancelled at the Delhi airport today, as per the flight tracker website flightradar24 this morning, with an average delay of about an hour.
The delays also ran up to several hours in some cases where a passenger claimed he had to wait approximately 13 hours for his flight to Goa.
Major airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet and Vistara further informed that bad weather conditions in Delhi and Kolkata may impact flights. Reportedly, an early morning Delhi-Kolkata flight was diverted to Hyderabad, informed Vistara.
A similar fog situation had disrupted flight and train services in Delhi on January 14 with zero visibility reported in the airport area. The season’s first cold wave day was on January 12 with the temperature dipping to 3.9 degrees Celsius while January 13 was the coldest night at 3 degrees.
