The journey to becoming an IPS officer
is arduous, with the UPSC exam being a formidable challenge. Tenzing Yangki,
however, shattered barriers and made history by becoming the first female IPS
officer of Arunachal Pradesh, securing an impressive All India Rank or AIR of
545 in the 2022 UPSC exam.
Yangki’s achievement is not only
inspirational but also a testament to her family’s longstanding commitment to
public service. Hailing from a family with a rich legacy in civil services, her
late father, Thupten Tempa, served as a minister and made notable contributions
to the Indian Revenue Service and the Indian Administrative Service.
Her family’s commitment to public
service traces back to her grandfather, the late Nyerpa Khow, a pivotal figure
as the first political assistant in Tawang. Nyerpa Khow, alongside Major Bob
Khathing, played a crucial role in bringing the Tawang region under Indian
rule.
Tenzing Yangki’s journey reflects her
deep dedication to public service, aligning with her family’s legacy. Prior to
her notable success in the UPSC exam, she had also cleared the Arunachal
Pradesh Public Service Commission or APPSC exam in 2017.
Yangki’s historic achievement serves as
an inspiration, particularly for aspiring female civil servants, breaking barriers
and contributing to the growth and representation of women in the Indian
administrative services.
